Reflection

Throughout the course of this semester Writing 3020 has taught me things that were beyond my knowledge when it came to digital culture.  I was not a firm believer in things like remixes, gifs, memes, etc. Before this class I did not even know what a mash-up was.  I did not really look in to those type of things because I believed that they were not even though they are things that are remade they actually lack creativity because it was not an original idea by the creator.  After going through the first four weeks of class I have changed the way I look at these things because of all the different aspects that come with digital culture.  This group site has allowed me and my group mates to explore a broader view of our theme of music.

Throughout this class we have posted a number of different post to our group website.  These post has shown what people in my group are interested in and what there take is on how there post relates to digital culture.  One aspect of digital culture that I have learned and have been able to look into is the curation.  Our group site was basically an archive that allowed us to organize in different categories what was going on in the music part of digital culture.

Our post to our website also displayed rhetorical velocity. The post on our page showed how the popular things in music were moving throughout digital media.  It showed how fast some stuff have moved, how far they have stretch away from the topic of music, and how fast it has spread.  Curation also allows individuals in our group to show what people has created and also displays how we as a group is using participating culture.  Since we have re-posted videos we are helping circulate the new media creations of someone and helping spread their content.  This has also given a different platform on how we can engage in our group activities.  The biggest way is it allows us to be able to comment on other group members post and give and insight on our perspectives.

The group site has enhanced my knowledge and has allowed me to express what my interest in music were.  Our group site has also enabled my knowledge of different institutions that use music in the digital media form to alter the way people are learning.  For example there is a high school that I read about in an article when researching participatory culture and it discussed how the teacher was using rap music the students like to help them learn.  They were able to participate and learn more about other subjects’ not just music.
